Colaparchee Kennels was established in 2017 by Rette Collins. Colaparchee Kennels breeds, raises and participates in hunt test with quality Labrador Retrievers. All of our dogs are tested and titled. Our Labrador Retrievers range in color from black, yellow and chocolate. Our dogs are raised to be hunters, participate in hunt test, field trials and to be your best friend at home or in the field.
Each of our dogs have their own personality, their own strengths and weaknesses. Our dogs all get a long with each other including puppies, adults and children. They enjoy running the yard, swimming in the pool, playing with their toys and participating in hunt test.
Typically we have 4-5 litters per year. All of our puppies are out of papered and titled parents. Puppies are sold when they reach 7 weeks old. All of our young dogs begin training for hunt test and field trials at the age of 4-5 months. When they are 24 months old, they get examined for their hips, elbows, CMN and EIC.

Labrador Retriever’s are best known for their love to hunt, but they also make great family dogs. They enjoy playing with toys and hunting birds. They have an incredible nose to detect scents and they are natural swimmers. Labrador Retriever’s are well known for being loving, playful and very intelligent breed of dog. Along with being a great family dog and hunter, they are also known for being good guide dogs for the blind, deaf and other handicapped individuals with their trainability, temperament, intelligence, and social disposition.
Hunt Test
The first AKC retriever hunt test was held in 1985. The focus on hunt test is to see how well your dog retrieves birds in all types of conditions. During hunt test, Retrievers are not competing against other dogs and handlers. Each dog is judged off their own merit.
Hunt tests have three levels, Junior, Senior and Masters. All retrievers can be titled for each level if they pass their tests. Judges score dogs on their natural ability to mark and remember a fall, on their hunting style, perseverance or courage. They are also scored on learned abilities such as steadiness, control, response and delivery.
Hunt tests are a non-competitive event which makes for a warm and inviting atmosphere. Everyone encourages each other to be successful and have a good time.
Retriever Field Trials
Retrievers are one of the most popular breeds in America. Many hours are spent playing fetch with retrievers each year and many think it is just a form of play, but it is more! Retrievers have the natural ability to respond to direction and it is a great way to start participating in Retriever Field Trial Competition.
Retriever Field Trials require the handler and the dog to work together to have a successful outcome. Each dog is competing against each other versus hunt test that is pass or fail. Each dog is judged on its natural ability to mark a fall, memory, intelligence, attention, style, courage and perseverance. Dogs are also judged on their abilities for steadiness, control, response to direction, and delivery of bird.
Retriever Field Trials give the dogs an opportunity to win titles and become a Field Champion (FC) title and Amateur Field Champion (AFC).
Titles
For a dog to earn a title, they must pass a pass/fail hunt test from the “Hunting Standard.” All judges are required to be experienced Hunters and must pass HRC administered tests or AKC, apprentice as judges, have fun safety training, attend judging seminars, have handled and passed a dog in the category that they are judging and meet other HRC requirements.
